Hesco to get power from country's first alternative energy project

By SADIA SAEED October 13, 2008

Five turbines are being installed and each with the capacity to generate 1.2 MW of electricity. The project will produce sufficient clean electricity to eliminate the production of approximately 10,500 tones of carbon dioxide each year, compared to a conventional fossil fuel power project.

The project which in subsequent phases would be expended to a 50 MWs wind farm is currently using the gearless Vensys 62 with 1.2 MWs technology.

It is worth mentioning that NEPRA has awarded tariff of US Cents 12.1025 per kWh, which is cheaper then the electricity generated from the thermal sources.

“Commissioning of this first wind powered electricity generation project would be highly significant step towards achieving Pakistan’s renewable goal. We are on our way to a future that can be transformed by the use of clean form of energy,” said Arif Alauddin, chief executive alternative energy development board (AEDB).

“The completion of the first phase of the project would underline AEDB’s ambition to facilitate the setting up of a portfolio of a high-quality wind projects which would provide clean and secure energy supplies to the country and create new business opportunities”, he added.
