Karachiites celebrate I-Day in a befitting manner
By IRFAN MALIK August 15, 2008 KARACHI - Karachiites celebrated the 61st Independence Day with usual zeal and fervour. The celebrations started on Wednesday night when different political parties took out rallies. As the clock struck 12 mid night, spectacular fireworks lightened the cloudy skies of the metropolis creating enchanting scenes.
All government offices, petrol stations and skyrocketing buildings of the multinational companies and banks in the city were profusely illuminated to mark the historic occasion.
Hundreds of private cars, motorcycles, trucks and buses carrying huge national flags filled the streets from North Karachi, Malir, Landhi to Sadr and Sea View where hundreds of vehicles jammed the space.
