The E&IP department of CDGK has been authorised to issue the price lists of grocery items including vegetables, fruits, milk and meat but rates of sugar, edible oil and ghee are set by the federal government while provincial regime can decide the prices of pulses, rice and wheat.
It also may be noted that Chief Secretary Sindh has repeatedly issued directives to all DCOs of the local government across the province to ensure the implementation milk prices as set by local governments and those of other commodities but his orders remained unheeded.
The lack of coordination among functionaries of three top executive authorities is another reason for price-hike. It was also learnt that E&IP department would establish Model Bachat Bazaars at the town level to provided vegetables, fruits and other essential commodities to the citizens at cheap rates but this plan could not be materialised due to non-cooperation of the E&IP department.
On the other hand, a town administration is keenly working to establish Bachat Bazar to provide vegetables, fruits and other items to the citizens at cheap rates. The concerned officials said that comprehensive planning was underway and it would be enforced in the area before the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
