PML-N popularity declines in Sindh
By ZAMIR SHEIKH September 17, 2008 The old party guards hold Syed Ghaus Ali Shah, who is considered a symbol of Muslim League in the province, in high esteem but he is facing difficulties in party’s re-organisation because on the one hand he remained in exile for years while on the other parallel groups were not extending help in this regard. Sources further said that it was from 1993 to 1996 when certain elements tried to undermine and sideline Syed Ghaus Ali but as the former Sindh CM had strong roots in the province, their designs met with total failure.
PML-N came into power in 1997 the tug of war between groups continued and these groups remained at daggers drawn when the party high command was in exile and the party had to suffer a lot in the province.
There is no leading PML-N politician in Sindh to rally the party and steer it away from troubled waters despite the fact it is ruling in the Punjab and is in strong position at the centre. Observers are of the view that perhaps the PML-N high command, based in the Punjab, has abandoned the party in Sindh.
