PML-Q Sindh quits Musharraf's drowning boat

By Zamir Sheikh August 18, 2008

Powerful minister like Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and Agha Siraj Durrani were not given chance to speak on the resolution. Though impression was given that these ministers were not willing to speak but according to sources, they were not given chance.

MQM by not attending the Wednesday session had served its political end truly. It showed to its coalition partner that they have the interest of the province at their heart. MQM’s move was more about self preservation and it was served through a mature political decision.

It’s a known fact that Pervez Musharraf had been the political mentor of the MQM under which the cities of Karachi and Hyderabad seen unprecedented development work. The MQM had truly served its voters by proving that they could deliver to their supporters and other citizens of the cities provided given a chance. They owe their success to their mentor Pervez Musharraf who gave them full support after watching the sincerity and the loyalty of the MQM.

Pervez Musharraf appointee Governor Dr. Ishratul Ebad toed neutral line and worked for the welfare of the province without any bias. Dr. Ebad got his name registered in the history when he became the longest serving governor and it was only because of the confidence given by Pervez Musharraf. MQM has not abandoned their mentor and when the real crunch comes in Islamabad, they have the right to take a different line than from Sindh because they are not part of the federal government.

Political observers are of the view that the MQM would really put up a fight to defend Pervez Musharraf because they feel the entire process smell foul because there are more urgent matters needed to be addressed for the welfare of the citizens than for going into a fight that may hurt the national interest and could even take the country into a deeper political crisis.
