Rs 46m relief sent to Balochistan quake victims

KARACHI - The Strengthening Participatory Organisation (SPO) has launched a Humanitarian Response Programme (HRP) to provide relief to the victims of earthquake in Balochistan. The said volunteer organization has distributed relief items of Rs 46 million to the victims.

According to Ellahi Bakhsh Baloch, a senior official of SPO-Karachi Office, earthquake on October 29 caused massive disaster in some parts of Balochistan. Apart from death toll, round 8,000 houses completely have destroyed for which about 50,000 people had become homeless. Mostly women and children were killed and more than 5,000 injured when a severe intensity earthquake struck Ziarat, and Pishin districts of Balochistan. Hundreds of mud houses were razed to the ground and people were forced to stay under the open sky in severe cold.

So far as, total 1,200 tents, 4,800 blankets and 200 food packages according to the requirements of Sphere standard (universally agreed standard for disasters situations) which includes 80 Kg wheat, 40 Kg rice, 10 liters cooking oil, 7 Kg pulses, 7 Kg sugar, 2 Kg dry milk, 1 Kg tea, salt, match box, 4 soaps, sweaters, warm shawls and set of hygiene kits for each family was distributed by SPO Balochistan with the support of CWS-P/A in union council Kawas of district Ziarat and Khanozai of Pishin.
