KARACHI - The notification for the composition of new National Finance Commission (NFC) is likely to be issued by acting president Mohammad Mian Soomro very soon which was deferred by former president Pervez Musharraf, sources in finance ministry told The Nation on Tuesday.
The summary for composition of new NFC award was waiting on the table of President Pervez Musharraf but he did not sign it deliberately, a senior official of Sindh government said. He hoped that the acting president is expected to give the approval for composition of NFC within a week.
The four provincial finance departments are busy preparing cases to get more shares in sixth NFC award which will start its working after getting nod from the acting president.
The Sindh government is also busy making a strong case on multi-dimensional factors for next NFC award, an official told The Nation. “This is high time for provinces and federation to reach a consensus formula of resources distribution as democracy is restored in the country.”
Advocating more shares for Sindh in next NFC award, the official said that high level of urbanisation, influx of population, arid zones, rural backwardness, water-logging and salinity had severely affected the economic condition of the province.
Besides, the Sindh’s overall backwardness, influx of population and law and order were the major peculiar features in economic uplift of the province, he pointed out. He informed that the inclusion of urbanisation in the resource distribution formula would also be suggested by Sindh.
