Sindh for urbanisation criteria in NFC Award

By RAMZAN CHANDIO August 20, 2008

Depicting the critical condition of people of province which needs special attention, the position paper claimed that the majority of population of province was scattered while establishing development schemes and it takes huge extra amount.

The official paper said that urbanisation with specific to Karachi where people migrated from within and outside the country were sharing the infrastructure of province which has resulted in straining of civic amenities.

Over 4 million people of other provinces have enhanced provincial obligations to provide basic services including health, education and shelter but they were counted in the population of their respective province, finance department’s paper said.

It pointed out that other provinces were getting extra share of resources on behalf of those people who have lived in Sindh.

The 80 per cent trade and 68 per cent revenue of the country is generated from Sindh but no special consideration was accorded to it in any NFC award in the past.

It observed and strongly proposed that multi factor criteria must be adopted for the distribution of resources among the provinces in next NFC award.
