Strict security ordered for Moharram processions

KARACHI - Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza has directed CCPO Karachi to ensure installation of surveillance cameras on the entire route of main processions on 8th, 9th and 10th Moharram.
The direction was made in a meeting with an eighteen-member delegation of Jaffria Alliance Pakistan, led by Allama Abbas, who called Home Minister at Central Police Office on Friday. Dr Zulfiqar Mirza also issued directives to ensure installation of required walk-through gates a the Nishtar Park and selected Imambargahs, as pointed out and requested by the delegation.
Dr Zulfiqar Mirza directed Inspector General of Police Sindh to ensure due consideration to the recommendations put by the delegation in the contingency plan being finalized for Muharram-ul-Haram. He also directed to review the list of mosques/Imambargahs at police station level, so that foolproof security measures could be ensured.
The Home Minister ordered strict vigilance at the entry gates of all Imambargahs/mosques and starting points of processions ensuring body/baggage search of the participants with the help pf volunteers. Lady police officers should also be deployed for search of ladies, he added.
Dr Zulfiqar Mirza further ordered to keep the vehicle parking at a safe distance from Masajids/Imambargahs and site of processions.
“Police should be deployed at all selected places along with plainclothes to keep a close eye on any suspicious movement”, he added. The Home Minister directed PPO/IGP Sindh to give contingency plan the final shape after due consultation with Pakistan Rangers Sindh.
