Unscheduled loadshedding irks people

KARACHI - The unending sufferings of Karachities started to further aggravate the situation as the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) gifted 6 to 7-hour unannounced loadshedding to the citizens to meet the 300MW shortage of electricity.
The closure of the unit-6 of Bin Qasim Plant had created a crisis-like situation in the metropolis and caused the KESC to resort to excessive loadshedding in all the 18 towns of the city. The said unit was providing 150 MW to Karachi.
The total demand of the city has reached up to 2300MW while present total production of KESC with all its partners is 2000MW and closer of the said unit multiplied the problems. According to the sources of KESC the Unit-6 would be operational from Tuesday (today) and loadshedding period would be reduced after restoration of supply from the said unit.
Meanwhile, voltage fluctuations were rampant and many people claimed that their electrical appliances were damaged due to the frequent power outages and fluctuations.
Power outages continued day and night for more than 6 hours in DHA, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Garden Area, Federal B Area, Lyari, Sadr, Industrial area, North Nazimabad Block F, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Shah Faisal colony and other parts of the city.
Continued power breakdowns had also created water shortage in many localities and hospitals, minor and majors operations had to be cancelled due to continuous power outages.
A resident of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, told The Nation that in his area power outages continued several hours day and night more than a week. He said that his locality was densely populated and apartments were constructed without any planning and continued power break down had increased their agonies.
The students of HSC the examinations rooms were full of darkness due to prolong power failure, the students appeared in the exams said.
They alleged that many centres did not provide alternative source of electricity. They were facing extreme difficulty in preparation of examination due to power failure, they added.
