Sherry orders inquiry, rejects chairman's stance

By FAHEEM RAZA July 22, 2008

KARACHI - Rejecting the PTV chairman’s inquiry as illegal, Federal Information Minister Sherry Rehman has ordered another inquiry into the negligence of the PTV officials during the live telecast of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s first address to the nation.

Informed sources revealed to The Nation that the newly appointed chairman of the PTV, Dr Shahid Masood, himself was somehow responsible for the negligence and his favourites blamed another official in the inquiry to punish him to save themselves from accountability.

Sources in the Information Ministry added that when the information minister visited the PTV centre at 4pm to see the arrangements for the PM’s speech, the chairman PTV was having rest in his office pretending to have suffered from rumbling in his stomach so as to avoid receiving his immediate boss, Sherry Rehman.

They said that as soon as the minister left PTV for PM House, Masood arrived on the scene looking sleepy and nonchalant. He gossiped with the Union people and directed them to chant slogans in his favour when the PM will arrive at PTV.
