City to have $300m desalination plant
Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER May 22, 2008 It may be recalled here that a growing population has strained Karachi's water resources and the Sindh Government as well as City Government of Karachi is looking for the options to make seawater usable.
According to some conservative estimates the city is facing a shortage of 650 Million Gallon on daily basis.
Hence, the majority of the populace is being forced to buy contaminated water that is being supplied to them by tankers. These suppliers use polluted and unhygienic water resources to cater the needs of people and several epidemics have been reported in the city as a result.
The proposed project by Aqualying would not only help the task of the government to cope with growing water shortage problem but it's also a welcome sign for Sindh government as its would be first such foreign investment in the province. The city government would also share the credit as it was facilitating investment in this sector to solve Karachi's water problems.
