Govt. hasn’t thus far provided fund for pleading Aafia case

November 22, 2008

The government of Pakistan has thus far not provided the fund for pleading the case of Dr. Aafia Sidiqui incarcerated in US, which appears putting the matter of her being brought to home in limbo. Sources said that despite repeated assurances from the government to Aafia Siddiqui family, they have not been given fund for hiring the services of a lawyer till now. US taxpayers thus far have borne the expenses of this case being heard in the Texas District Court. Sources said that the name of the lawyer and the details of the probable legal expenses relating to the case were sent to the government in August, but no reply was received till now. Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s lawyer, Elaine Sharpe has confirmed the offer sent to the government. It may be recalled that on the eve of President Asif Zardari’s maiden tour of New York, he had claimed that Pakistan government was footing the bills of this case.
