By ZAMIR SHEIKH August 23, 2008

KARACHI - Amidst thunderous applause and desk thumping, three parties in the ruling coalition and the entire opposition joined hands at the special session of the Sindh Assembly on Friday to unanimously adopt a resolution nominating PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari for the slot of President.

Legislators belonging to the PPP, MQM and ANP, joined by opposition leader Jam Madad Ali and his PML-F colleagues, NPP and PML-Q, in an unusual show of camaraderie passed the resolution in support of Asif Zardari for the post of the President.

This is the first time in its 60 years old history that the parties in Sindh Assembly sunk all their differences and rose as one man with one voice to support candidature of Asif Zardari for the presidential slot.

Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, in his speech reflected the feelings of friendship and comradeship when he thanked all the members present in the assembly including those in the opposition for their support for Asif Zardari. He spared no words to personally thank on his behalf and on behalf of the PPP, the spiritual chief of PML-F Pir Pagara and NPP head Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi.

The Chief Minister poured praise on the MQM chief Altaf Hussain for his party’s support to the resolution nominating Asif Zardari for the Presidential post.

“We are again making history by passing this important resolution, similar to another historical one passed on this very floor 63 years ago in favour of the creation of Pakistan, said Qaim Ali Shah.
