Contract employees may be fired from varsities
By SYED JAFAR ASKARI June 23, 2008 KARACHI - Hundreds of contract non-teaching staff of two public universities in the metropolis including Karachi University (KU) and Federal Urdu University for Art, Science and Technology (FUUAST), may suffer the removal from their jobs, as the Higher Education Commission (HEC) was not given an emblematic increase in the federal budget for the financial year 2008-09.
The recently issued insufficient federal budget for the higher education sector worth Rs 18 billion for development side and Rs 15 billion for recurring side has created troubles not only for administrations of the public universities but also for non-teaching staff of varsities.
