CDGK faces Rs 25.3b fall in tax collection

KARACHI - The CDGK has faced Rs 25.302 billion shortfall due to less collection of tax and non-tax receipts during last fiscal year 2007-08, says a report prepared by the finance department of city government.

The CDGK authorities including the revenue department has failed to get the target of tax collection during 2007-08 set by CDGK as 42 per cent of the target achieved this year.

The CDGK collected Rs 20.393 billion against the target of Rs 45.695 billion which is the 42.63 per cent of the tax collection, as per details in the report.

The Enterprise & Investment Promotion (E&IP) has managed to earn income of Rs 6,214,045 from organising Bachat Bazaars which is 124.28 per cent of the total earnings.

The report shows that Rs 3,353,600 income in the head of Misalliance income in EIP, which is 670.72 per cent, a record percentage as far as collection of taxes in FY 2007-08 is concerned.     

The revenue group of offices collected only 27 per cent of the target in the head of Katchi Abadis as they set the target of Rs 150,000,000 but collected only Rs 40,562,219.

The same department collected Rs 178,764,060 in the head of hoardings and billboards which is 29.79 per cent instead of Rs 4,080,200 target set by the local taxes department.

The same department collected a handsome amount of Rs 157,873,759 from the income of shop boards and sunshades. The coordination department performance was not up to the mark as they collected only 15.74 per cent of the set target which was Rs 298,600,000 and they collected only Rs 47,011,027.
