Govt to nominate 39 parliamentary secys
By FAHEEM RAZA July 24, 2008 KARACHI - After consulting its coalition partners, the PPP-led government has decided to nominate 39 parliamentary sectaries and 46 standing committee members today (Friday), well-placed sources told The Nation here on Thursday.
Sources in the PPP said that out of the 39 nominated parliamentary sectaries, 12 would be taken from PML-N, one each from ANP and the JUI-F while the rest would belong to the PPP. Of the 46 standing committee members, 14 would be taken from the PML-N, 8 from opposition parties, three ANP and 3 from the JUI-F. The sources added that PM will issue the notification of parliamentary sectaries and National Assembly Speaker will issue the notification for standing Committee chairmen. They further said that leaders of the coalition parties would hold a meeting today (Friday) after the issuance of these notifications. The sources, however, said that the coalition partners have not decided, so far, to appoint Public Accounts Committee Chairman while expansion in the federal cabinet has been deferred till PM’s return from the United State visit.
Moreover, after mutual consultation of PML-N head Nawaz Sharif and the PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, more ministers would be inducted in the federal cabinet. Sources also disclosed that Aftab Shahbuan Mirani, Rafique Jamali, Nabeel Gabool, Shagufta Jumani and Ejaz Jakharani from the Sindh province would also be inducted in the federal cabinet.
