Lawyers observe strike, vow to continue struggle

KARACHI - Complete boycott was observed in City Court and Malir District Court on the call of Pakistan Bar Council on Thursday. The lawyers did not appear before the courts and the litigants had to return without hearings of their cases.
As per details, the lawyers’ fraternity continued their campaign by boycotting the legal proceedings in both courts on account of weekly boycott in the metropolis. They also staged a protest agitation in the premises of both courts demanding restoration of free judiciary and reinstatement of deposed judges.
Though, the judges remained present in their chambers to carry on the court proceedings, but lawyers did not appear before the courts. The protesting lawyers were carrying placards and banners bearing demands for restoration of free judiciary, reinstatement of deposed CJP Iftikhar Chaudhry and those, who refused to take oath under PCO. The lawyers also set up a camp in front of the KBA office and observed token hunger strike. They vowed to continue struggle till achieving the goals.
Meanwhile, a general body meeting of the KBA was held at Shuhda-i-Punjab Hall of the City Courts under the chair of Karachi Bar Association President Mehmoodul Hassan.
Member Pakistan Bar Council Advocate Yasin Azad, Member Sindh Bar Council Sallahuddin Gandapour, President KBA Mehmoodul Hassan, Secretary General Naeem Qureshi, Advocate Sardar Zulfiar, Advocate Tariq Niazi, Advocate Mohammad Aqil and others spoke on the occasion.
Addressing the meeting, Yasin Azad said the lawyers have been following the line of action since November 3 2007 given on the call of Pakistan Bar Council and Supreme Court Bar Association, and will continue their struggle till success.
