Lawyers observe strike, vow to continue struggle
Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER July 24, 2008 Though, the judges remained present in their chambers to carry on the court proceedings, but lawyers did not appear before the courts. The protesting lawyers were carrying placards and banners bearing demands for restoration of free judiciary, reinstatement of deposed CJP Iftikhar Chaudhry and those, who refused to take oath under PCO. The lawyers also set up a camp in front of the KBA office and observed token hunger strike. They vowed to continue struggle till achieving the goals.
Meanwhile, a general body meeting of the KBA was held at Shuhda-i-Punjab Hall of the City Courts under the chair of Karachi Bar Association President Mehmoodul Hassan.
Member Pakistan Bar Council Advocate Yasin Azad, Member Sindh Bar Council Sallahuddin Gandapour, President KBA Mehmoodul Hassan, Secretary General Naeem Qureshi, Advocate Sardar Zulfiar, Advocate Tariq Niazi, Advocate Mohammad Aqil and others spoke on the occasion.
Addressing the meeting, Yasin Azad said the lawyers have been following the line of action since November 3 2007 given on the call of Pakistan Bar Council and Supreme Court Bar Association, and will continue their struggle till success.
He demanded immediate and unconditional reinstatement of all of the deposed judges through an executive order. He added the lawyers’ fraternity would never compromise on the principles.
