First-ever open heart surgery at KIHD
Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER November 24, 2008 KARACHI - The first ever open heart surgery was successfully performed by doctors on one Naseem Ansari at Karachi Institute of Heart Disease (KIHD) and proved successful.
City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal Monday met the patient during his visit to the hospital and presented him bouquet.
Talking to the media the occasion, Mustafa Kamal said that KIHD has progressed well gradually and now it has been provided with the capability to perform a bypass surgery on daily basis.
He pointed out that city government is employing only its own resources to run and develop its hospitals and there would be no compromise on the amount spent on health care facilities.
He informed that KIHD provides very cheap heart surgery to people, especially those who cannot afford expensive operations in other hospitals.
At present it costs Rs 2.5 to 6 lac for open heart surgery while at KIHD they only have to pay 50 thousand rupees.
