Goods transporters call off strike
By RAMZAN CHANDIO August 26, 2008 KARACHI - The Karachi Goods Carriers Association called off their strike on Monday evening on the assurance from the government that their problem will be solved, The Nation learned.
The government official and the representative of transporters held a meeting to discuss the strike issue but the meeting ended in failure earlier.
However, in another meeting the government officials gave a firm assurance to the transporters to fulfil their demands, as a result the transporters ended their seven day strike on Monday.
The Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Qamar Zaman Kaira reached Karachi and held a meeting with the leaders of Goods-Carrier Transport Association while Provincial Minister for Transport Akhtar Hussain Jadoon, Karachi Goods-Carriers Association Chairman Captain Asif, Madad Ali Niazi and others attended the meeting.
