Opp opposes KSE bailout package
By RAMZAN CHANDIO November 25, 2008 KARACHI - Opposing the proposed bailout package of federal government for stockbrokers, the lawmakers in Sindh Assembly on Tuesday suggested that instead of saving the billionaire brokers of the Karachi Stock Exchange, the government should use this amount to provide support, shelter and food to poor segment of population.
Member Sindh Assembly Arif Mustafa Jatoi, the son of former caretaker Prime Minister Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, has filed a motion in which he strongly opposed the proposed bailout package of federal government for billionaire stockbrokers.
“Rs50 billion being spent to save the billionaire members of Karachi Stock Exchange should be better utilised by providing shelter and food to poor people so that they would not leave their children at Edhi Centres due to poverty”, Jatoi demanded.
Though, despite the attention drawn by MPA Arif Jatoi, the House did not take up his resolution for discussion.
