KESC eyes Rs11b revenue with 31per cent tariff-hike

By SADIA SAEED September 25, 2008

KARACHI - The KESC is expected to generate additional revenue worth around Rs11 billion in case its request of 31 per cent hike in power tariff is approved by the NEPRA, sources told The Nation on Thursday.

The new KESC management has demanded the NEPRA to allow it 31 per cent hike in power tariff as has been allowed to the PEPCO. The KESC had been generating around Rs 36 billion in revenue per annum through electricity bills and 31 per cent power tariff hike would lead to revenue generation of Rs 11 billion, said the sources.

This is to be noted here that the KESC has the monthly revenue of about Rs.3 billion earned through billing and this amount does not include losses. If the NEPRA allowed the company to increase the tariff rate by 31 per cent, the KESC will be generating about Rs 1 billion per month additional revenue.
