Workers decry privatisation of garbage-lifting

KARACHI (PPI) - Some 11000 workers of sanitation departments of various towns of city district government Karachi have serious reservations over the handing over collecting of garbage from the city government to a Chinese firm, and they it as the failure of city administration.

Chairman Municipal Workers Trade Union Alliance (MWTUA) Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah and General Secretary Farid Awan said this while addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club here on Tuesday.

They said that due to a new agreement with Chinese company, jobs security and fringe benefits including gratuity, pension, funds, medical facilities and other perks of the workers were in danger.

Zulifqar Shah said that earlier it was responsibility of the administration of towns and union council to monitor the command, control and monitoring of garbage collection system.
