Workers decry privatisation of garbage-lifting

They warned that they would compel to widen their protest if their demands were not met. They said that in this connection as a first step they would stop sanitation work in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Jamshed and Liquatabad towns from August 28, 2008 as a token of protest.
LPP condemns sacking
of 1200 workers
Labour Party Pakistan has strongly condemned sacking of 1200 workers from Ghafforiya Garments and demanded their immediate restoration.
In a statement on Tuesday, Secretary General Labour Party Abdul Salam claimed that around 40 workers were forcibly sacked from the factory on early Monday, as a result their colleagues staged demonstration along with the sacked workers, who were also sacked by the administration.
He said that around 1200 sacked employees staged a sit-in in front of the factory gate where they were baton-charged and tear-gassed by the police. Police also arrested 20 workers, he added.
He demanded that the sacked workers should be immediately restored.
