NHA to construct 3 Sindh highways

KARACHI - The construction of at least three important roads of Sindh have been handed over to the National
Highway Authority (NHA).
Answering the queries of provincial lawmakers during the question hour session of Sindh Assembly on
Saturday, Provincial Minister for Works and Services, Manzoor Hassan Wassan, pointed out that the
construction of provincial roads by NHA was ignored during the previous regimes, but on special directives of
President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, construction of three roads have been handed over to NHA.
Keeping the weak financial position of the province, the Ministry of Communication had notified the construction
of three roads of Sindh along with complete transfer of Right of Way to NHA, which has been finalised this year,
he maintained.
Wassan informed the House that federal government will spent Rs17 billion on the construction of three
important roads of the province including Gharo to Keti Bunder of 90 kilometres with Rs4 billion, Larkana to
Lakhi Naudero-Gharhi Khuda Bux 105 kilometres with Rs2.5 billion and Hyderabad to Khokhrapar 222
kilometres with Rs11 billion. However, he hoped that NHA would complete the construction of three important
roads within two to three years.
Replying another question of Arif Mustafa Jatoi regarding completion period of new building of Sindh Assembly,
Wassan said two committees; Construction Committee headed by Speaker Sindh Assembly and Technical
Committee lead by Secretary of provincial assembly, have been formed to closely monitor the construction of the
new building of assembly, while the project director was yet to be appointed.
He further said that tender had been issued in newspapers for inviting companies to construct the new building,
