Call for action against burning of thieves
By SAADIA QAMAR August 29, 2008 According to Chief Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid, “Our criminal justice system is about to collapse. In Pakistan the conviction rate is attributed to be between 6 to 10 per cent. The law has supported the dominating rich class and forcibly succumbs the poor. People will take law in their hands, the government should provide justice at the earliest hour. If they are aware of the provision of quick justice then people will not take law in their hands. Moreover, the new president must ensure fullest co-operation in this new set-up as far as the judicial system is concerned.”
Hussain Naqi said: “Poverty itself is breeding crimes in our society. The population is increasing at high rate and we are failed to provide resources to our youngsters. Unfortunately our justice system is collapsing and it also affecting our society.”
Dr Syed Ali Wasif was of the opinion that it was a multifaceted problem being faced by our society. About 40 per cent of the youth is unemployed, 20 per cent women have neo-natal services provided. Suicide rates have been alarmingly increased, as many as 3-4 unemployed people are committing suicide on daily basis. Sadly, there was a ‘mob hysteria’ and the police cannot be held responsible for not being able to control the episode.”
