Nazim asks Zardari, PM to resolve power crisis
August 29, 2008 Taking strict notice of load-shedding for as long as 16 hours in the city, the Nazim expressed his indignation over KESC. He called Director Corporate and Strategic Planning Syed Ali Haider and Director Regulatory Abduol Rauf Yusuf to his office and conveyed his concern to them regarding problems caused by prolong load-shedding and called for speedy measures by KESC.
Mustafa Kamal said that worst conditions have gripped the city and over 16-hours long load shedding has plunged common people, businessmen and industrialists into difficulties.
He pointed out that government privatises its institutions because it cannot make more investment in them and that private sector would make investment and develop them. But KESC’s private management made no investment in KESC and rather attempted to earn profits from old infrastructure as a result of which the conditions deteriorated and today situation in KESC has turned to be like that of a patient in ICU.
Mustafa Kamal said that power plants are lying cool because fuel charges have increased and as per his information KESC shut down plants itself as the power generated in its plants costs higher.
He said KKESC has entirely become dependent on WAPDA but WAPDA cannot fulfil the city’s entire power requirement and, therefore, KESC will have to switch over to self-generation.
Nazim said although we are city’s elected representatives, but we have no say in KESC.
