SA in unison to build summer resort in Sindh
By ZAMIR SHEIKH August 30, 2008 KARACHI - Gorakh Hill, the highest point in the Sindh province will be developed into a summer resort and to achieve this aim, the Sindh Assembly on Friday unanimously passed a Government bill for establishment of Gorakh Hills Development Authority.
Located in the Dadu district, Goraklh Hill is known for its natural beauty and its lower temperature during the sizzling summer season. Since the Z A Bhutto regime, the hill was to be transformed into a summer resort like Simla in the pre-independent days but for some reasons, the plans to develop the hill faltered.
With the setting up Gorakh Hill Development Authority, it is hoped that finally, the area would be developed into a tourists spot and a summer hill resort.
Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro tabled the Government Bill No-09, 2008-The Gorakh Hills Development Authority Bill in the house for introduction and discussion.
Initiating discussion on the general discussion on the bill, Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Sasui Palejo said that 5,688 feet high Gorakh Hill, but no substantial work was carried for the development of this hill station.
She said during the first stint of PPP in 1989, under the executive orders of Shaheed Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, a feasibility report was prepared for Gorakh Hill. Had an authority been created, not only Gorakh but also the hilly tract of Khirthar would be developed. She said that Sindh government would invite investors as well as tourists, if such hilly resorts were developed.
