Sindh gets 26.66pc less water share
By RAMZAN CHANDIO September 29, 2008 The data of daily water flow in various barrages from Indus River, at least 26.66 per cent water shortage was measured on Monday as Sindh received total withdrawal of water of 86,020 cusecs in three barrages against 11,7300 cusecs share allocated in Water Accord 1991.
Meanwhile, severe water shortage of 46.83 per cent was measured at Guddu Barrage as the total 19,140 cusecs Indus River water discharge recorded at Guddu Barrage against share enshrined in Water Accord of 19,140 cusecs.
Out of total share of 36,000 cusecs at Guddu Barrage, the Sindh’s share is 25,800 cusecs while Balochistan’s share is 10,200 cusecs. Despite over all shortage persisted in Indus River, the Sindh Irrigation Department had released almost full share to Balochistan.
It may be noted here that Balochistan government has always been protesting and claiming that Sindh government releases less water than its share enshrined in water accord.
