Sigh of relief as veg prices fall at Sunday Bazaars
Source: Our Staff Reporter November 30, 2008 LAHORE - Shoppers heaved a sigh of relief on Sunday as the prices of vegetables and fruits dropped in the Sunday Bazaars here in the City as compared to the previous week.
The market sources said that though there was great buying and extraordinary rush of customers in all the Sunday Bazaars but the supply was also sufficient.
The availability of commodities in abundance at all the Sunday Bazaars helped maintaining the prices of fruits and vegetables at lower level, market dealers said.
The shoppers complained that tomato was in short supply but the prices of most of the vegetables and fruits dropped in the Sunday bazaars as compared to the last week.
The price of onion has been fixed at Rs 17 to Rs 22 per kilogram as compared to Rs 20 to Rs 24 per kilogram. However, the vendors sold it at higher rates of Rs 22 per kilogram by mixing lower grade. The price of onion for wholesale market was fixed at Rs 15 to Rs 20 per kilogram. The retail price of it was fixed at Rs 18 to Rs 24 per kilogram but is sold at Rs 25 to Rs 28 per kilogram.
The price of new potato in Sunday bazaars was further reduced by Rs 5 to Rs 8 per kilogram and fixed at Rs 17 to Rs 20 per kilogram from last week Rs 22 to Rs 28 per kilogram. The wholesale price of potato was fixed at Rs 15 to Rs 18 per kilogram but it sold at Rs 20 per kilogram while in retail market it sold at Rs 22 to Rs 25 per kilogram against the price of Rs 18 to Rs 21 per kilogram.
