People wary of power cuts without schedule

LAHORE - The unscheduled and incessant power outages have continued to disturb the routine life of citizens, as a series of unannounced loadshedding have been reported across the country including City.
Spokesperson of the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) told The Nation that due to closure of some IPPs of around 650 megawatt and reduced inflow of water from Mangla and Tarbela Pepco was running short of around 1,000 megawatt.
“Electricity demand is currently standing at 11,200MW, which led to a shortage of over 1,000 Mega Watt of power,” he said.
He said that loadshedding of 3-4 hours in urban localities of the country while five hours scheduled load management might be observed in rural areas.
Meanwhile, almost all residential areas in the city experienced at least three to four hours loadshedding. There were also reports of power outages in several suburban localities. The power outages have also affected water supply in many areas of the city.
Loadshedding affected most the areas of Samanabad, Model Town, Garden Town , Multan Road, Shahdra, Mozang, Walled City, Johar Town, Iqbal Town, Chohang, Mughalpura, Ravi Road and Sabza Zar.
Prolonged power outages were reported in Gulshan-E-Ravi, Inside Bhati, Landa Bazaar, Shah Alam Area, Rang Mahahl and several other areas of the city.
Well-informed sources in the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) said that due to overloading several grid stations in city continued to trip throughout the day, as a result, the citizens were deprived of electricity for three to four hours in different areas.
Residents of Samanabad, Ittefaq Colony and Gulshan-e-Ravi stated that they were disturbed due to electricity shutdown since 10am. They also complained that Lesco officials were incapable of giving any reason for the unannounced loadshedding on Sunday. Citizens also lamented that they tried their best to contact Lesco office but not a single call was attended by the officials.
A woman from Garden Town informed The Nation that they had suffered power outages of at least three hours. She said they were happy due to uninterrupted power supply for the last couple of weeks but it seemed loadshedding era was again coming.
A caller from Walled City said the absence of electricity during the day has also caused water shortage and they were unable to fill up their water tanks.
Reports said that power outages hit almost the entire city, causing a serious power failure on Sunday in almost localities.
