Jeweller's murder during robbery sparks violence
Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER September 3, 2008 The intruders, when challenged by Ejaz, opened fire on him and escaped with some jewellery including two gold bangles and as many gold chains. Ejaz, who received no less than four bullets, was taken to Lahore General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
It is pertinent to mention here that at least seven citizens had been killed by the robbers while 10 others injured on resistance during the last 15 days which is evident from the fact that police had miserably failed to overcome dangerous surge in the crime ratio.
The surge in the crime is evident from some incidents, as recently a businessman Rizwan Beig was shot dead by the robbers along with his bodyguard on The Mall in front of a five star hotel last Monday.
Similarly, a youth, Mehran Ali was killed by the robbers in Green Town police limits. A trader Zafar Iqbal was shot dead by outlaws in Shahdara Town area on August 18, when he was going on an auto-rickshaw. The robbers deprived him of Rs 300,000. In another incident that had taken place on August 20, a 70-year-old woman Hameeda Bibi was murdered by criminals and her two daughters were injured in Shahdara area. The robbers took away cash and other valuables worth over Rs 1000,000 from her house.
