Girl having minor injury put to gallows: CJ

LAHORE - Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Thursday constituted a three-member medical board to probe into the death of three-year-old girl, Imanae Ali, as she was given high potency anesthesia in Doctors’ Hospital.
The chief justice passed this order while taking suo moto notice of the incident and directed the advocate general Punjab to take the record of the hospital in possession, which according to reports, had been done through SP concerned soon after the CJ’s order.
The chief justice remarked, “Such complaints against the healthcare practitioners have become the order of the day and the instant case is a classic example where the baby having a minor burn injury on finer was put to the gallows”.
The chief justice asked the AGP to ensure that a board was constituted to examine the entire matter and submit a detailed report till December 15.
The CJ further directed that the parents of the deceased and the hospital administration should be associated in the inquiry.
Prof Dr Sahukat Mahmood of Mayo Hospital will head the board while Capt Dr Shabbir, Medical Superintendent Punjab Institute of Cardiology, and Dr Asad Ashraf will be its members. The board will also associate the child’s parents and the hospital administration during the inquiry.
The chief justice took suo moto notice on the report of a daily newspaper. According to the report, Amanae Malik was taken to the hospital for treatment of a minor burn injury on her hand. She was administered three injections of high potency anesthesia in the hospital that caused her death.
