Mian Shahbaz Sharif said the Punjab government was facing a number of serious problems in education, health, agriculture and other sectors due to inept policies of former rulers and the situation in hospitals and educational institutions was miserable. “Rectifying the situation is a challenge. However, the present leadership will overcome all these problems with mutual consultation and cooperation of the people and will utilize all available resources for coming up to the expectations of the masses. Delay in the execution of development projects will not be tolerated in the future and stern action will be taken against the persons responsible. Due to the poor policies of former rulers, the government has to issue additional funds of billions of rupees due to delay in the implementation of uplift schemes during the last eight years, which tantamount to criminal negligence,” he said adding there was hardly a project where financial irregularities were not committed and it was completed within stipulated period.

The Chief Minister further said the Food Support Scheme was a historic achievement of the Punjab government and a comprehensive strategy for ensuring transparency had been adopted. “This programme aimed at the welfare of poor and destitute persons will be launched on August 14 and monthly relief assistance will be provided to deserving persons through money order. Wheat and flour situation has improved in the province and the Punjab government is supplying 6000 tons of wheat to NWFP and 2000 tons of wheat to Balochistan for the promotion of harmony and brotherhood,” he said.
