IGP plans to bridge public-police gap

LAHORE - Inspector General Police Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar has vowed to overcome gulf between the
people and police by holding open courts to listen to the public grievances and announced to pay surprise visits
to different police stations around the provinces. In the process, he would also organise open courts on every
Saturday in different districts, while a monitoring system at the Central Police office (CPO) will ensure fruitful
results of the initiative.
He was addressing his first press conference as the IGP at CPO on Monday. Replying to a question about any
breakthrough in the terrorist incidents at Liberty and Manawan, he said he had nothing much to share with the
general public or reassure them. “Investigations are under process and he will soon inform the media about
developments in this regard”.
He said Punjab police were using all available resources to combat terrorism with the coordination of CID and
other law enforcement agencies and soon would announce some ‘good news’ in this regard.
To another question, IGP Punjab said police could call Rangers to deal with any emergency as it was done in
Mianwali.
He said Punjab police was going to enter a new era with full determination to restore public confidence and
eradicate crime. He hinted to bring about changes to transform the force down to the grass root level. “My first
priority is to change prevailing culture at police stations and the second one is to restore public confidence”.
