Shahbaz for increase in per acre yield

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that increase in per acre yield is of vital importance in view of growing wheat requirements. He directed that availability of quality seeds be ensured and all-out measures be taken for achieving the wheat production target of 20 million tones in the province.

He was presiding over a high level meeting regarding development of agriculture sector, increase in agricultural production, provision of fertilizers and quality seeds as well as other facilities to the cultivators, here on Sunday. Federal Secretary Food & Agriculture, CS Punjab, Provincial Secretary Agriculture and Secretary Food were present.

He further directed authorities concerned to take immediate measures for acquiring solar energy to meet shortage of electricity, increase in agri production and uninterrupted supply of power to the farmers. He also issued instructions for operating some tubewells with solar energy as a pilot project.

The chief minister said uplift of agriculture sector and increase in agri production is the top priority of the government and solid measures are being taken for the welfare and prosperity of farmers. He said tractors are being provided at subsidised rates to the farmers under Green Tractors Scheme for the promotion of modern agri technology. He said all out resources be utilised for improving quality of wheat as well as increasing per acre yield. He said that supply of quality seeds is essential for enhancing agriculture production.
