Shahbaz for increase in per acre yield

Provincial Secretary Agriculture said solid measures have already been taken for the supply of quality seeds to the cultivators. Secretary Food informed that there is no shortage of flour in the province and it is easily available to the consumers. He said that Punjab government is also supplying flour to NWFP and Baluchistan province.

PU faculty urged to raise teaching standard

The members teaching faculties of the Punjab University were asked to make efforts for further improving the teaching pattern and educational standard.

The Dean, Behavioural and Social Sciences, PU, Prof Dr Mughees uddin Sheikh at a meeting with chairmen Political Science, Social Work and Sociology (institute of social and cultural studies) Departments and Gender Studies urged them and faculty members of the departments to make strenuous efforts to bring the teaching standard at par with international standards.

He said VC Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has made available all resources for the significant improvement in research and education. He said students must be given assignments and made it essential for them to take full advantage of relevant valuable books from library besides e-mail and internet facilities.

He said all students must give presentation in their classes on different topics and issues relevant to their master course to develop their confidence.

He highlighted the distinctive features of the task given by the VC for improvement of teaching and educational standard in all faculties of the varsity.

Dr Mughees said that overall academic performance of all faculties will be reviewed quarterly and those showing excellent results will be highly appreciated.

He said that VC has chalked out a master plan for conducting high profile research in all departments especially in science subjects at par with internationally recognised universities. He said for this purpose memorandum of understanding will be linked with foreign leading universities including exchange of teachers’ visits to each other universities.
