City roads echo with Jiay Bhutto

Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER September 7, 2008

At different intervals of time from 4 pm to 7 pm, party workers coming from different parts of the City converged at Chairing Cross (The Mall) in the form of small groups to join the main rally. They were carrying banners inscribed with pro-Zardari slogans. The atmosphere echoed with the slogans of Jiay Bhutto.

The PPP also organised a rally at Data Darbar, where party workers and leaders also offered thank-giving prayers. An impressive dance by trained horses, Bhangra (traditional dance performance) by party workers and distribution of sweets and milk were the hallmark of the event.

While addressing the rally, PPP's Punjab general secretary Ghulam Abbas criticised PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif for what he called betraying the people at a time when ARD movement against General Musharraf was at its peak.

The Sharif brothers, he said, preferred exile to imprisonment and left the country after striking a deal with a dictator in utter disregard of people's sentiments. They left the country, when people needed them the most, he added.
