Media urged to shun stereotype image of women
Source: Our Staff Reporter November 7, 2008 LAHORE - There is a need for self-regulation on the part of media, especially in the portrayal of women, who must not be exploited for commercial interests but shown as dynamic human beings with equal mental calibre and potential for growth as men and they should be given their due right.
This was stated by Justice (r) Nasira Javed Iqbal at a seminar ‘“Portrayal of women in media - status & requisites” held at the Press Institute of Pakistan (PIP) on Friday.
The host of the seminar was Director PIP Absar Abdul Ali. He delivered the welcome address and highlighted the role of this institute geared to training and capacity building of young journalists.
Nasira Javed Iqbal stressed for greater participation of women in media. She said when their number would increase at the decision making level things would be improved in the right direction positively.
