By AMRAIZ KHAN October 7, 2008

LAHORE - Unrest in the country has delayed the project of establishing nine universities across the country, which were scheduled to be established through the Foreign Assistance Collaboration Programme under the aegis of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, sources in the HEC said here on Tuesday.

They said the former government had announced to establish nine universities after the name of Universities of Engineering Science and Technology Pakistan in various cities of the country including two universities each in Muredkay and Karachi and one each in Sambrial (Sialkot), Lahore, Islamabad, Multan and Peshawar.

As per agreement the land for the buildings of the universities was to be provided by the provincial governments concerned while the HEC was supposed to fund the projects and concerned foreign country was supposed to provide her services in imparting education to the students.
