Sunday Bazaars flooded with flour bags

On the other hand, the rates of vegetables and fruits also decreased at the Sunday Bazaars as compared to the previous week as people in great number particularly the salaried class thronged these bazaars to buy essential commodities and other food items in the first week of September. The poor customers were witnessed buying more and more flour bags than other commodity at the Sunday Bazaars, perhaps they think that price of this food staple may shoot up after Ramazan. Though the prices of fruits and vegetables were low at the Sunday Bazaars as compared to the open market, however, low quality fruits and vegetables were sold at all the Sunday Bazaars in the City.
The prices of all vegetable items except onion, tomato and potato decreased at the Sunday Bazaars as compared to the previous week. While several Sunday Bazaars witnessed shortage of onion and potato.
District Coordination Officer Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta visited various Sunday Bazaars to monitor the availability and prices of essential commodities.
According to the officials, the DCO took serious notice of the onion and potato shortage in Green Town Sunday Bazaar and issued show-cause notice to the Town Officer Regulation Arshad Sindhu. The DCO also ordered the authorities to arrest a vendor Mohammad Rauf who was selling dates at Rs 80 per-kg against its fixed price of Rs 50 per-kg.
The stalls of several vendors were also cancelled on the charges of overcharging. The DCO also called explanation from the Inspector Market Committee Islampura for sale of onion at inflated rates.
The rates of potato (new) remained unchanged and fixed at Rs 24 to Rs 26 per kilogram.
