Resources' dearth challenge for environment
Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER June 8, 2008 LAHORE - In an attempt to create a deeper understanding of the crucial importance of environment, the Aga Khan Planning and Building Service Pakistan conceptualised an art competition titled 'Friends of the Environment' at a local hotel on Sunday. The event was held as part of the golden jubilee celebrations commemorating 50 years of Imamat of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan in which a number of initiatives, programmes and developmental projects are being organised internationally.
The objective of this activity was to encourage youth to participate in a fun activity, while simultaneously raising awareness about the importance of the natural environment, the methods of preserving it, and planning to built environment accordingly. Youth from across Pakistan in the age group between 9-20 years were encouraged to participate in this activity. Around 40,000 students from different parts of the country submitted their drawings in this competition. The contest was divided into three different stages with initiation at local level with short listed paintings being promoted to a regional and national level competition respectively.
