Arrangements finalised for meter-parking system
By YASIR HABIB KHAN October 8, 2008 The authority has proposed the parking rates for different time durations and sought suggestions from the general public to finalise them on October 19. Under the proposed rates, parking ticket of Rs 10 has been set as per hour and Rs 5 will be charged after each hour. For the whole day, Rs 50 will be charged. The authority has proposed Rs 200 ticket as parking fee for a week. Apart form this, Rs 20 has been set for local traders and shopkeepers for the whole day. In case of violation, Rs 500 will be charged.
Approximately 90 per cent work regarding parking lanes for cars have been completed in Liberty while 10 per cent was expected to be completed on Wednesday. Under the parking map outlined by the authority concerned, roundabout 580 cars will be accommodated. Arrangements for motorcycle parking will be materialised after the finalisation of work for car parking
Some 16 latest parking meters imported from France would be installed at different places in the city. After installation, the meters will redress the grievance of Lahorites regarding overcharging by the parking stand contractors.
