7 doctors of Mayo Hospital suspended for negligence

Secretary Health Punjab Anwar A Khan suspended these doctors on the recommendations of a three-member enquiry committee headed by Prof Dr Javed Akram. Prof Dr Mushtaq Haroon and AMS admin Dr Majeed were also the members of this committee constituted to probe into the death of the young girl, Sadaf Munir. While talking to TheNation, Secretary Health Anwar A Khan confirmed the suspension of seven doctors of the Mayo Hospital saying that action was taken in the light of inquiry report that held these doctors responsible. The victim girl was daughter of Munir Mughal, resident of Shahdra, and was student of FSc in Ayesha Degree College, Ravi Road. The doctors who have been suspended include DMS admin Dr Zaheer Ahmad, Senior Registrar Dr Rabia Rathoor, Dr Muhsan, Dr Afshan, Dr Rabia Habib, Dr Nazim Hussain and Dr Mansoor Ahmad.

Sadaf Munir was brought to emergency department on June 19 with minor pain in abdomen. The on-duty doctors gave no proper attention to the patient and used delaying tactics in providing treatment to her and the condition of the girl got critical. On agitation of girl’s father Munir Mughal and other family members, the doctors started treatment and gave two injections which ultimately caused death of the girl. The inquiry committee was constituted when matter was brought into the knowledge of the secretary health Punjab and later Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif. The inquiry committee held responsible the above mentioned doctors for their negligence in providing treatment to the girl.

Munir Mughal told this scribe that Sadaf Munir had complained minor pain in her abdomen. He first took her daughter to a private hospital (Bajwa Hospital, Shahdara ) where doctors conducted all necessary investigations.
