Hall Road vendors set CDs ablaze amidst terror threats
By SALMAN ABDUHOO October 10, 2008 LAHORE - The CDs shop owners at the Hall Road in City Friday set thousands of ‘vulgar’ CDs ablaze voluntarily to avoid any attack from the militants following the threats of various radical Islamic groups.
Traders said that they were receiving unknown phone calls, threatening them to close the shops, dealing in vulgar CDs. They said there was panic to a large extent among the traders and shopkeepers, doing business in the area.
CD shops in the bazaar had been receiving anonymous letters and phone calls for the last few days, asking them to shut down their businesses, traders said. They added that the letters stated that the business was ‘un-Islamic’. The callers were also warning them to stop selling ‘vulgar’ CDs otherwise they would be bombed, they said.
