Hall Road vendors set CDs ablaze amidst terror threats
By SALMAN ABDUHOO October 10, 2008 He said the vulgarity and nudeness were on the rise all over the country and private TV channels, govt media, cinemas and theatres were promoting this equally.
He informed The Nation that there were about 4,000 shops at the Hall Road and among them 200 to 150 shopkeepers do the business of video and CDs.
He said only 30 to 25 vendors were selling these videos, which now had been destroyed by them.
It is worth mentioning here that it has become a routine matter of burning music shops in the north of the country for last one and a half year. In Miranshah particularly and North Waziristan Agency generally, unidentified men kidnap video shop owners for running CDs business. Usually they sprinkle petrol over these shops and set them on fire. It is the habit that militants warn cassette and CD shop owners in the restive agency to wind up their businesses or face consequences.
