LAHORE - Women in media in Pakistan during a National Conference have presented a charter of demand to the government for redressal of their grievances here on Saturday.

The conference held on 10-11 October 2008 under the aegis of South Asian Women in Media (SAWM) in a local hotel was attended by a good number of women and media men.

The women demanded the government of Pakistan to amend all laws that discriminate against women such as Qanoon-e-Shahadat and Hudood Ordinances and other discriminatory practices by the state and its various institutions at various levels, to introduce mechanisms to get already prevalent laws enforceable guaranteeing women their due rights in property, society and state while opening all closed avenues of their participation in society.

They further demanded that government must take note of feminisation of poverty and make women empowerment a crucial parameter of policy planning and management.
