45,000 cops to ensure law, order on I-Day
Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER August 13, 2008 LAHORE - The City police announced a security plan by deploying as many as 45,000 policemen on all the entry/exit points and other parts of the provincial capital on
the eve of the Independence Day.
According to a press release, the security plan includes regular deployment of eight SPs, 36 SPOs, 82 inspectors/SHOs, 308 upper subordinates and 210 reserves.
In the meeting of the operations wing police officers held on Tuesday, SSP (operations) Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed said the menace of one-wheeling, kite-flying and
fire-works on Aug 14 would be disallowed and stern action would be taken against the violators without discrimination.
He directed the divisional SPs to intensify the ongoing crackdown against the fire-works and kite-flying and barred the people from indulging in the practice of
kite-flying banned by the Lahore High Court.
