Rain floods City streets

Source: Our Staff Reporter August 13, 2008

LAHORE - Another heavy downpour on Tuesday flooded several localities exposing tall claims of the best arrangements by civic agencies to minimise the havoc of

monsoon.

The reason behind the flood on roads and streets are failure of plans made by WASA to redress the grievances of people who remain deprived of any respite

whenever monsoon sets in. Before the start of monsoon WASA put into force monsoon action plan to desilt all the drains. But regretfully, like every year, the plan

dashed to ground when second monsoon rain lashed the city.

Observing the situation, CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif came to rescue the people and WASA had to put into force monsoon crash programme which was reported to

have collapsed after the two days torrential rain. Lahorites fear that if merely 38 mm rain could turn the city into ponds and lakes, then how might they be rescued in

heavy rain.
